The day started with Tony Mather and Pippa Crust from EMAS welcoming our volunteers with a classroom based quiz to get the grey matter working, looking into the cardiovascular system. Next Tony and Pippa delivered lectures into various injury's including burns, breaks and catastrophic bleeding. Progressing on to wound packing and amputation trainers, this allowed volunteers to get hands on and practice life saving skills to stop catastrophic bleeding using packing and tourniquets.
After lunch crews took part in multiple scenario based training including traumatic cardiac arrest, medical cardiac arrest and falls, dealing with a Pedestrian versus car traumatic cardiac arrest, patient found in enclosed space in medical cardiac arrest, a fall from height with a flailing chest wound and fall down stairs resulting in C spine injury and mid shaft femur fracture (this scenario saw an Oscar like performance from Pippa!). We must say - no Tutors were injured during this training!
It was an excellent opportunity for crews to get hands on refresher training with various bits of kit including pelvic binders and traction splints while dealing with simulated real world incidents.
A fantastic start to 2024's CPD which wouldn't have been possible without Tony and Pippa giving up their valuable time to support both LEMR and the RAF Wittering Responders.
We are already looking forward to the next one!
