LEMR Welcome Our First Recruits of 2025
Only 3 weeks into 2025 and our newest recruits have completed their initial training with EMAS.
RAF Digby kindly hosted the Level 3 course, delivered by the EMAS training team of Pippa Crust and former LEMR members Tony Mather and Les Dawson.
The week long course was made up from LEMR volunteers and those from our sister scheme at RAF Wittering.
The trainees were put through their paces with BLS, working individually and in a crew scenario. This enables them to fit in to the EMAS 'Pit Crew' concept which is designed to bring increased efficiency and structure to the way the ambulance crews treat patients in cardiac arrest. Each member of the team knows exactly what to do, when to do it and how to do it.
As the week progressed the team moved on to patient immobilisation techniques and scenarios. After the theory behind the techniques was delivered, the trainees got hands on with the Scoop and Spider. The Scoop is a lightweight stretcher which is strong and adjustable which enables easy access in awkward, low and confined spaces. It is carried on all front line Double Crewed Ambulances (DCA's). the spider is the name given to the straps which are used to secure the patient prior to transport.
A very intensive but enjoyable week was had by all the trainees, with other topics such as the taking of Obs, patient handovers wound dressing, the use of the Mangar Elk lifting cushion and much much more covered!
Our newest responders, Emily Axten, Millie Hartman, Stu Slater, Cameron Sinclair and James Smith will now completed 5 mentored shifts post clinical course so if you see them on the road please do say hello!
